FOUNDATION

Welcome to School Life at Sirius College

I would like to extend a huge welcome to the Foundation students and families, in particular the new families to Sirius College, Shepparton. I am excited to be this year’s Foundation teacher and I look forward to working with the newest additions to school and you as the parents.

The Foundation students have experienced a great start to school, enjoying the classroom’s welcoming tasks in the mornings from cutting, pasting, drawing, beading, patterns, construction and more. These tasks are not only for settling into school life but a continuation on what they may have missed as part of their kinder year in 2020 because of COVID.

In the coming weeks, the students will meet their Grade 6 buddy. This person will be there to guide them in the yard if they have any problems and also to be a part of a ‘Buddy Reading’ program. This is where the students will have their buddy read to them and with them, to support these Foundation students in their new learning.

Homework

Every week the students will have set homework. This includes home reading, reading one book a day and parents signing the yellow reading diary to show that this reading is completed. Also for the Reading Eggs and Mathletics program, Please Note: The students’ Reading Eggs and Mathletics login details are the same for both. You will find a permanent copy of your child’s login details on the inside cover of the yellow reading diary. These tasks will be set to begin on a Monday and be due on the Saturday, (of the same week) at 5pm.

Integrated Studies

Term 1’s topic for Integrated Studies is: Past and Present Family Life. The students have been exploring special events including birthdays. It may be helpful in the introduction to Show and Tell in the coming weeks to speak with your child about their last birthday and also their favourite things. They are welcome to bring in something to show for this (kept in their bag until it is time for ‘Show and Tell’ however it is encouraged that students don’t bring toys to school for use in the yard as many things can get lost in transition. Thanking you in advance on this matter.

Fruit Time

The students have a fruit break every day to help keep their energy levels going for the long time until it’s snack time. Please ensure that your child has fruit in their lunchbox every day. Thanks.

The following individual student photos show the students on their first day of school.
